Why the Increase?
The 2025 budget responds to ongoing financial pressures and the need for sustainable long-term planning. Key drivers of the increase include:
Increased debt repayment obligations ($1,397,764 or 12.34% levy increase)
- Tax funded Argyle/Lochiel/Opeongo/Hall project about $502,000
- Highway 60 (O’Brien Rd) project about $91,000
- Town Hall Renovations about $142,000
- Ma-te-Way Expansion project about $662,000
The following drivers were largely offset by one-time reductions in OPP costs of $352,044 (or 3.11% levy decrease):
- Rising inflation and service delivery costs.
- Strategic planning for capital facility renewals.
- Support for community services such as recreation, waste management, and emergency services.
Council undertook a thorough review of spending priorities to ensure the budget meets current needs while positioning the community for future success.
