♻️BIG Changes to Ontario's Blue Box Recycling Program! ♻️
Due to Provincial regulation a new recycling program is coming to Ontario residents January 1, 2025.
What You Need to Know:
Who is in Charge Now? The old system (run by your municipality) is switching to a Producer Responsibility Model.
What does that mean? Producers (the companies that make the products) will now be responsible for funding and operating Blue Box services across the entire Province.
The New Manager: Circular Materials Ontario is taking over the management of the residential recycling program through a local contractor (Miller Waste Systems).
What is changing? For residential properties/units there will be limited change. You will receive a recycling calendar and contractor information from Circular Materials via Canada Post. The list of recyclable materials will be expanded to include new items such as flexible plastics, Styrofoam, black plastic, and certain empty aerosols, find the full list at https://www.circularmaterials.ca/resident-provinces/ontario/
⚠️Important Note for Businesses/Organizations⚠️
This new model does not include non-residential units (like businesses, schools, and offices).
The Town of Renfrew is working on an alternative recycling program for non-residential units. More info will be provided soon on our website and socials; BIA and Chamber of Commerce Members will receive an email with full details when available.
We know changes can be confusing, but this is a major step toward a more efficient, province-wide recycling system!
