Renfrew’s New Indoor Walking Track Opens to the Public

The brand-new walking track is free to use and located on the second floor of the myFM Centre in Ma-te-Way Park at 1 Ma-te-Way Park Drive.

The indoor walking track at the myFM Centre has officially opened to the public. The brand-new walking track is free to use and located on the second floor of the myFM Centre in Ma-te-Way Park at 1 Ma-te-Way Park Drive. Residents looking to access the walking track can take the elevator, stairs or use the existing arena to get to the walking track. New signage for the facility to properly direct residents will be installed in the coming weeks. The indoor walking track goes around the new B.E.I. ice pad. The walking track is open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will close if there’s a paid event. 

Benefits of Walking 

Health Canada says physical activity including walking helps healthy growth and development and gives us energy, decreases stress, increases strength, and prolongs independence as we age. Health Canada also notes that physical activity helps prevent chronic diseases such as cancer, obesity, hypertension, heart disease and diabetes. 

Ma-te-Way Expansion Project Updates

The expansion project is nearing the final stages. Tenants including 96.1 myFM, Renfrew Chiropractic and Rehabilitation Centre, Ultimate Fitness and Child’s Paradise Day Care are in the process of occupying their new spaces with operations to commence shortly. The gymnasium, fitness centre, dance studio and multipurpose rooms will be the next facilities to open. Part of the second phase of the expansion project will see the Bonnechere Algonquin Indigenous Cultural Centre open in 2024.
