Roads Update: Public Works

Spring brings potholes, flooding, and deteriorating road conditions as a result of winter wear and tear. Slow down and drive with caution.

With the arrival of spring comes a welcome change in weather - but it can also bring potholes, flooding, and deteriorating road conditions as a result of winter wear and tear.

  • Our Public Works crews are actively identifying areas in need of repair; however, some potholes cannot be addressed immediately, as they remain filled with water and temporary cold mix repairs are not always effective in these conditions. Potholes will be filled with cold mix throughout the spring until hot mix asphalt plants open for the season in early summer.
  • During peak freeze-thaw cycles and heavy spring rains, potholes can develop rapidly and in large numbers, which may make it challenging to meet standard maintenance timelines. In extreme cases, this may be treated similarly to a significant weather event.
  • Weather permitting, crews will begin sidewalk and street sweeping in April.
  • We will also continue removing snow piles and banks in key areas to help reduce the risk of flooding. While we are familiar with common problem areas, spring conditions can vary each year, and we will respond to flooding concerns as they arise.
  • Residents who experience lawn or yard damage caused by plow operations are encouraged to contact Public Works to be added to the spring lawn repair list.

Residents are reminded to slow down and drive with caution. We appreciate your patience and look forward to beginning summer construction and road maintenance as soon as weather conditions permit.
