More than 35 years have passed since the tragic murder of 14 young women at Polytechnique Montréal on December 6, 1989. This horrific act of gender-based violence deeply affected our nation and prompted Parliament to establish December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
The Town of Renfrew, in partnership with the Renfrew Public Library, invites you to join us for a vigil to honour and remember the victims, and to stand together against violence toward women. Please note: We will observe this national day on Friday, December 5, to ensure that the Santa Claus Parade does not detract from the significance of this important commemoration.
