Stoop and Scoop

Let’s work together and keep our public spaces clean by cleaning up any feces left by your pet on public or private property. Dog/ cat droppings contaminate beaches and other public spaces and pose serious health hazards to children playing nearby and to other persons and animals.

Animals Running At Large

No animals, including cats, may run at large. If your pet is off your property, it must be on a leash and under the care and control of its owner and / or person. Failure to do so may result in a fine. This law is in place for both the protection of pets and people living in and visiting the Town of Renfrew.

Dog Park

The Town of Renfrew has created a large, spacious fenced in Dog Park suitable for off-leash running / exploring for dogs of all sizes. The park is located at Ma-Te-Way park directly behind Rushleau Ball Diamond (turn right after the Henry Eady Building). Parking is available adjacent to the park. Stoop and Scoop bags are available on site and owners are required to pick up after their animal while using this public site.

Animal Pound

The Animal Pound is located at 529 Lisgar Avenue. If your animal has been picked up by Animal Control please call By-Law Enforcement (613)-432-4848 to co-ordinate the pick-up of your animal.

According to the applicable sections of By-Law #17-2000, "No owner, or person having the care and custody of any dog or dogs, shall permit them to become a nuisance by excessive or unnecessary barking, or making undue noise at any time.“

*** Please note*** Animal Control does not respond to nuisance wildlife calls or wildlife that has taken up residence inside of homes.

Animal Attacks

All bites or scratches from an animal that cause a break in skin must, by law, must be reported immediately to the medical officer of health and Animal Control. If you have been bitten or scratched by an animal, especially if rabies is suspected, contact your doctor or your local health department immediately.
