Thought for the Month

Community

The word “community” is defined as “a group of people who live in the same area” and “a group of people with a common background or with shared interests”. Many of us think of community as the place we grew up, our friends and neighbours, our schools and churches, the sporting and social activities we partake of. We see ourselves as a small part of these larger groups but cannot always put in perspective the part we play in that “community” or the influence that that “community” has on us.

Recently the Town of Renfrew has put on display the feeling of “community”! This town, the people who live here and make it such an amazing place to live, have exemplify the spirit and meaning of the concept of community yet again. Within a seven day period this community has had the opportunity to show its spirit on three specific occasions, Celebration of Life day, Catch the Ace and the Fundraiser for the Plunkett and Schuller family.  Three different opportunities to become involved in our community, to show support of your friends and the things that are most important to them, and three time this town and the people who make it a vibrant and caring community rose to the occasion and gave from their hearts.

We can use this spirit on a daily basis, in our own individual ways to ensure that everyone is taken care of and is safe. Please ensure your neighbours, family and friends are in your thoughts each day. Check in on them; see to it they are not alone or lonely, and help in what every little way you can. We all do it so easily and that spirit is what makes Renfrew this amazing place we all call home.
