The decision was made at the Special Meeting of October 30, 2023. The Town of Renfrew currently works with Municipal Law Enforcement Services (MLES) to provide by-law services in the community with the contract expiring in December 2023.
“We want to thank MLES for their contributions and service to the Town of Renfrew,” said Renfrew Fire Chief and Director of Fire and Emergency Services, Michael Guest. “Our staff will work to ensure a smooth transition over the coming weeks and months,” adds Guest.
Two by-law officers will be hired to work a combined 70 hours per week. The changes will result in an additional 500 hours of by-law enforcement provided in the Town of Renfrew per year.
“Recruitment of the new by-law officers has started with a plan to have staffing in place by January 2024,” says Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay.
Under the new town run model, coverage will be provided from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. seven days per week with an additional six hours per week allocated for on-call responses.
