Hydrant Flushing
Posted On: Monday, October 2, 2023
The Town of Renfrew is planning to do Fall valve turning and hydrant flushing the week of October 16th to 20th, 2023.The valve turning and flushing will be taking place overnight for ease of access to valves from traffic, to not disrupt peek water usage times, and keep water discoloration issues at a lower risk. Flushing is part of a routine maintenance program that is necessary to maintain the integrity of the water system. The hydrants will be opened to discharge water and clear watermains. This procedure ensures that all hydrants and valves are working properly, and identifies other problems that may be present.
The areas that could potentially see water discoloration are:
- Raglan Street South
- Arith Boulevard
- Pine Avenue
- York Street
- Colerain Drive
- Buckridge Crescent
- Simpson Avenue
- Grant Boulevard
- Masey Crescent
- James Crescent
- Vanier Crescent
- James Avenue
- Wade Avenue
- Centennial Drive
- Opeongo Road
NOTE:
When you see flushing in your area, we ask that you refrain from running your washing machine or using a dishwasher. You may notice brownish sediment in the water. To clear this brown water, let a COLD WATER tap run (suggested taps: outside hose, bathtub or laundry tub) for a short period of time until clear water returns. Please DO NOT use your hot water until you have clear water again. If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Development & Works at 613-432-8166. The Town of Renfrew thanks you for your co-operation.
