The annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference is underway in London, Ontario and the Town of Renfrew secured five delegations.
Renfrew Mayor Tom Sidney, Renfrew Reeve Peter Emon and Chief Administrative Officer Rob Tremblay are representing the Town of Renfrew at the conference.
Renfrew Mayor Tom Sidney says, “This is a great opportunity for the Town of Renfrew to speak directly with multiple Ministries within the Province as we try to find ways to collaborate on projects and continue to modernize and move Renfrew forward.”
Delegations were secured with the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure, the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, Minister of Indigenous Affairs, Minister of Transportation, and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
The Town of Renfrew is looking to update the Environmental Certificate of Approval and divert biosolids from the landfill, collaborate on publicly owned ravine lands near Highway 17 and the Bonnechere River to allow for public access and ecological protection, seeking additional funding for the Indigenous Culture Centre inside the Ma-te-Way Activity Centre, planning for the expansion of Highway 417 to Renfrew, and looking for flexibility in the Public Libraries Act to allow for more partnerships between the library, other departments and community partners for programming.
AMO works to make municipal governments stronger and more effective by bringing together Ontario’s 444 municipalities to achieve shared goals and meet common challenges. The annual AMO conference runs from August 20th to 23rd, 2023.
