Marriage License Information - BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

The Town of Renfrew's Clerk's Department serve the public directly by issuing Marriage Licenses.

Please email or call 613-432-4848 ext. 116 to begin the process.

You are strongly encouraged to call or email first as an appointment is required to collect information and complete the document to ensure you can get the license in a timely manner.

There are certain stipulations and requirements for marriages in Ontario and for the issuance of a Marriage license in the Town of Renfrew. Please visit the Government of Ontario's website for a Marriage Application and information - Service Ontario Website

Please be advised that Marriage Licenses are processed on Wednesdays and Fridays of each week (subject to change). Repsonses to requests for applicaions will be answered on these days.

Regarding your vows – should you wish to write your own vows simply indicate and we are happy to accommodate.

Marriage Licenses are valid for a total of 90 days from date of issue. It is Town policy to issue licenseapproximately 1 month out from the date of the ceremony.

Marriage license applications and questions regarding the process should be directed to:

Please complete, sign, and scan/send photo of the form along with a copy/photo of the following for you AND your finance;

  1. 2 x pieces of government issued ID – One piece must include a photo and signature.
    1. Acceptable ID as per includes: Birth certificate and any changes of name certificates, passport, driver’s license, Photo ID card, record of immigration landing, or Canadian citizenship card. *ID must be valid. Health Cards are NOT advised.
  2. Divorce Certificate (if applicable, and note that Divorce Orders are NOT valid)
  3. Confirmation that you have a registered Officiant to perform the marriage lined up

**Parental information is asked on the application – please include the current legal AND maiden name (in brackets if applicable) of mother**

Once ALL information has been received, an appointment will be scheduled for final signature and license pick up. One only applicant is required for this appointment, but both are welcome to attend.
